Fostering creativity and passion

As a devoted pedagogue, I have offered lessons to all ages and skill levels for over a decade, given masterclasses at universities and colleges, served on the keyboard faculty of Shenandoah Conservatory as a Teaching Fellow, and have adjudicated for local, regional and Music Teachers National Association music festivals and competitions.

Having pursued the craft as a performing pianist for more than 20 years, I bring a wealth of experience to my private instruction. Most importantly, I have had the great fortune over the years to have studied with truly excellent teachers myself.

These mentors taught with dedicated passion for my success and growth as a musician and artist, but never tried to force me to grow faster than I could, impose a one-size-fits-all approach to my learning, or neglect my development as an individual beyond the instrument itself. This is an inherited educational style that I now naturally bring to my teaching—an individuated appreciation for and approach to honoring the qualities of each unique student.

As a mentor, I know that not every child or adult who comes for a lesson hopes to become a professional pianist. This however has no bearing on the level of passion and attentiveness I bring to a student in lessons, as I myself was given the time and space to arrive at a genuine passion for and interest in my musical development.

My teaching approach entails meeting each student where they are—with patience, care, and a diligent, committed, encouragement toward a love and appreciation for learning and the beauty in music.
